About XANAX
XANAX belongs to a class of medications named benzodiazepines. The clinical trials approved by the FDA in 1981 have shown that XANAX is effective in the therapy of Panic Disorder, anxiety associated with depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and agoraphobia. (XANAX has not been tested in individuals below 18 years of age)
The mechanism of XANAX is not widely known, but it is generally assumed that XANAX affects some of the chemicals in the brain.
Not so long ago a new formulation of XANAX was accepted by the FDA and is now offered to patients. XANAX (extended-release tablets of alprazolam) is prescribed for the treatment of Panic Disorder.
Information concerning drug safety
XANAX is prohibited for patients suffering from acute narrow angle glaucoma. Patients with open angle glaucoma can safely take it. Consult your physician if you have any doubts.
As a rule all side effects are registered at the beginning of treatment and disappear if therapy is continued. The most regularly observed side effects in clinical experiments were irritability, insomnia, memory impairment, fatigue, drowsiness, impaired coordination, headache, and light-headedness.
To be sure that your use of benzodiazepines is safe and effective follow our recommendations:
- Tell your doctor about any alcohol consumption and medication you are currently taking, including drugs you may take without prescription.
- Taking XANAX is not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor if you are heavy with child, if you are setting up to become pregnant, or if you became pregnant while taking these pills.
- Let your physician know if you are nursing.
- Until you become familiar with the effects the medication makes on you, do not operate hazardous machinery or drive a car.
- Do not augment the amount of pills being taken even if you think the medication isn't working, without informing your doctor.
- Mind that benzodiazepines, even when took as recommended, may cause emotional and/physical addiction.
- Do not decrease the dose or cease taking Xanax abruptly without consulting your physician, for symptoms of discontinuation may take place.
Important Notes for Individuals Suffering from Panic Disorder
XANAX can lead to strong emotional and physical addiction in some patients at doses higher than 4 mg daily, and these individuals may find it extremely difficult to stop treatment. It is essential that your doctor helps you terminate taking Xanax in a safe and careful manner to evade excessive use of XANAX. Additionally, the uncontrolled use of XANAX at doses greater than 4 mg per day increases chances of occurrence and severity of withdrawal syndromes when the medication is put to an and. Convulsions can happen, especially if you decrease the dose too abruptly or break off the medication rapidly. This seizure can be critical though happens rarely.
